The M Young Chef of the Year contest returns for its fourth consecutive year to showcase the wealth of great young chefs in the UK and hospitality industry.
After what can only be described as the toughest and most challenging year hospitality has faced to date, it’s important to celebrate, champion and support young talent, now more than ever. Contestants between the ages of 18 and 29 hailing from in and around London and the UK are encouraged to enter for the chance to win the 2020 title of ‘Young Chef of the Year’.
We ask all entrants to submit a four-course menu for consideration to become a competitor in this year’s contest. Menus will be judged on their quality, approach to sustainability including ethical sourcing of produce as well as their ability to demonstrate a zero-waste philosophy.
Carefully selected contestants will take part in the first round of competitive heats in London and Manchester/Leeds. Finalists will then feature their four-course menu in a cook off/gala dinner at an M restaurant in London whereby their final dishes will be presented to a restaurant full of guests, press, influencers and industry figureheads. The winning chef will be selected by a point system which is weighted 50% to the judges on the night and 50% diners who attend the evening to ensure a fair outcome and well-deserved winner.
The winner will go on to receive further one-on-one coaching directly from Mike Reid post competition, as well as work experience in their chosen restaurant – choosing from any restaurant that our judges are a part of.
